Daily rhythm
Because of my home setting and very small group size, I am able to tailor activities to meet the interests of each child in my care on any given day and balance their needs for fresh air and rest, the stimulus of group activities and more leisurely play with me in their ‘home base’. Below is some information about what children might be doing during the day:
Local play session or outdoor play space/ home-based (pausing for a snack such as cheese twist, apple, milk)
Packed lunch (brought from home)
Nap time/ quiet time as required
Home-based play/ outdoor play space
Afternoon snack such as strawberries, scotch pancake, milk
Babies will be offered milk feeds and extra naps in accordance with their individual needs.
Examples of home-based play activities
Sharing books and stories
Treasure basket, shape sorters, stacking cups, puzzles
Wooden bricks, Duplo, Stickle bricks
Small world play: Trains, vehicles, animals, dolls house
Musical instruments, electronic keyboard, variety of recorded music
Role play: kitchen, shop, office, builders tools, babies, pets, dressing up, play tent
Exploring paints, washable pens, pencils, chalks, gluing and sticking, model making
Exploring play dough, ‘gloop’, and other sensory play
Sand play, water play and gardening
Bean bags, balls, bubbles, balloons, hula hoops, stilts, skipping rope
Climbing cube, trampoline, and ride on toys
Examples of activities out and about
I don’t have a car, but there's lots to keep us busy within walking distance:
Exploring the woods and fields of Stoke Park Estate
Making the most of the good range of local play parks
Play sessions at Filton Avenue Children's Centre
Boing! toddler soft play centre
Horfield Library
